Gallery art sale will benefit Adopt-a-School

Seminar focuses on personal finances

DOWNTOWN - The University of Tampa's Institute for Estate and Financial Planning presents a three-week seminar on income planning and preservation from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays beginning next week and ending Nov. 10.

Sessions will focus on estate, tax, investment and personal financial planning. Tuesday seminars will meet at university's Riverside Center; Wednesday and Thursday seminars will meet in the Sword and Shield Room.

Student Dance Happening set to start Wednesday

DOWNTOWN - The University of Tampa's department of speech, theater and dance presents its Student Dance Happening on Wednesday through Oct. 29 at the Edison Center, 214 N Boulevard. Performances start at 8 p.m. The show features 14 choreographers and more than 80 performers in lyrical, hip-hop, tap and jazz dance styles.

Boston firm is chosen to design history center

CHANNEL DISTRICT - E. Verner Johnson and Associates has been selected to design the 60,000-square-foot Tampa Bay History Center next to the Cotanchobee-Fort Brooke Park.

The architectural firm based in Boston has designed more than 200 museums worldwide. The museum project has raised more than $13-million for construction and operating costs. The museum is expected to open in 2008.

Planning group honors Linda Saul-Sena's service

TAMPA - The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized City Council member Linda Saul-Sena with the 2005 Distinguished Public Service Award at its annual conference last month.

Saul-Sena began her career as a planner with the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission in the 1970s. She has served four terms as a City Council member. She co-founded the Preservation and River Roundtables and serves as the Livable Roadways Chairwoman of the Metropolitan Planning Organization and is an active member of the city's Public Art Committee.

Columbia Restaurant helps cancer charity

HISTORIC YBOR - Richard Gonzmart and the Columbia Restaurant present the Gift of Life promotion at all seven restaurant locations, including Ybor City, 2117 E Seventh Ave. When dining at the Columbia through Nov. 6, guests can add a $10 donation to their lunch or dinner bill. In return, diners will receive a $10 gift certificate to be used toward a future meal at any Columbia Restaurant.

Money donated will support Moffitt Cancer Center and the Children's Cancer Center.

Women's group seeks scholarship applicants

TAMPA - The Downtown Tampa Business and Professional Women seeks female applicants for college scholarships of up to $1,000. Applicants must be enrolled and have completed at least one semester of college in pursuit of a business or professional career; demonstrate financial need; maintain a satisfactory grade point average; and exhibit strong motivation and commitment to succeed.

Chislers to host tour of UT's Plant Hall

DOWNTOWN - The Chiselers will host a tour of the University of Tampa's Plant Hall and the H.B. Plant Museum for spouses of members of the American Association of Port Authorities on Wednesday during AAPA's 94th annual convention.

AAPA members are port executives from throughout the Western Hemisphere. Mayor Pam Iorio is scheduled to greet the spouses in the Fletcher Lounge, where they will have lunch with the Chiselers, a group devoted to the preservation of Plant Hall.
