Hair-removal salon sets sights on going public

Ideal Image Inc. of Tampa seems to be growing as fast as its lasers zap unwanted hair.

So fast that the company is exploring the possibility of going public in 2007.

A year ago, the operator and franchiser of laser-hair removal salons had four locations: in Tampa, Sarasota, Boca Raton and Atlanta. Now the total is up to 25, mostly in the Southeast, and is expected to double by the end of this year.

The company is riding a wave of rising demand for cosmetic procedures among its core demographic, young women: "32-year-old females - that's our sweet spot," said chief executive Dean Akers, who is to become chairman of the CEO Council of Tampa Bay in December.

"We think this company could become another phenomenon from the Tampa Bay area," he said.
