Springstead High School principal Susan Duval recently announced that Amelia G. Carlson, Daniel J. Charles and Corinney Y. Dasher have been named Commended Students in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program.

NEWSMAKERS

A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program, was presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2006 competition for Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than one million students who entered the 2006 competition by taking the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

FLAMMER FORD

Flammer Ford of Spring Hill is supporting juniors and seniors in higher education by offering an incentive to attain higher grades and perfect attendance. For the first three marking periods, each student that gets an "A' or has perfect attendance will get two entry forms. Each student that gets a "B' will get one entry form. The forms will be put in a giant hopper and at the end of the third marking period, 15 finalists will be drawn. One of those 15 will then be drawn to win a 2006 Ford Mustang, donated by Flammer Ford. Students should go to Flammer Ford on U.S. 19 with their report cards to fill out their entry forms. Winner must be present to win, and will be responsible for any taxes, title and registration fees and license plate. All the information will be shredded after the contest.
