Inside information

The orchestra and the outdoors

By JOHN FLEMING
Published October 27, 2005

Here are a few of the things you can expect to hear in one of the Florida Orchestra's outdoor concerts. There will be movements of Mozart, Beethoven and Dvorak symphonies, a polka by Strauss and excerpts from The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story and The Lord of the Rings. Tchaikovsky is a favorite, and the waltz from Sleeping Beauty and the 1812 Overture are on the agenda. Entrance of the Gladiators by Julius Fucik is dedicated to students and teachers.

Associate conductor Susan Haig will be on the podium for three performances: at 7 p.m. Friday in Curtis Hixon Park, Tampa; 7 p.m. Saturday in Vinoy Park, St. Petersburg; and noon Tuesday for the lunchtime crowd in Lykes Park, downtown Tampa. (813) 286-2403.
