1. Capote - Philip Seymour Hoffman is a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination, playing author Truman Capote as he researches and writes In Cold Blood.

2 North Country - Academy Award winners Charlize Theron, Sissy Spacek and Frances McDormand help make this fact-based tale of sexual harassment memorable.

3. Everything is Illuminated - A compulsive collector (Elijah Wood) travels to eastern Europe to locate the woman who saved his grandfather during the Holocaust. Directed with uncommon assurance by first-timer Liev Schreiber.

4. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit - Nick Park already won two Academy Awards for short films starring these wonderful characters. Now he's a candidate for a third, in the feature length animation category.

5. Separate Lies - Upper-class Englanders (Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Rupert Everett) deal with adultery, manslaughter and cancer, all in a brisk 85 minutes.
