NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco County sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who sprayed pepper spray in a cabdriver's face during a Friday morning robbery attempt.

Cab driver Alfred Mangels, 46, a driver for A Signature Transport, told deputies he was parked outside Club Nocturnal, 4527 U.S. 19, about 2:40 a.m. when a man approached and asked for a ride. According to a Sheriff's Office report, the robber asked Mangels if he had change for a $50 then sprayed pepper spray in his face. Mangels stepped on the accelerator and sped away as the man tried to reach through the driver's window, the report said.

The would-be robber was last seen running east on Trouble Creek Road.
