SEMINOLE - Council members spent money on themselves and on upgrades to city facilities during Tuesday's meeting, breezing through most of the agenda with little discussion.
The meeting had to be moved from council chambers to the rec center auditorium to accommodate an initial crowd of about 200. Saying they wanted to leave enough time for public comment, officials went through the first 14 agenda items in 17 minutes and 17 seconds.
Here's a synopsis of some of their actions.
- By a 6-1 vote, council members gave themselves a 3 percent raise for this fiscal year. The raise, retroactive to Oct. 1, will increase their salaries from $5,400 a year to $5,562. Mayor Dottie Reeder did not get a raise and will continue to make $9,300 a year. John Counts was the only dissenting vote.
- Members unanimously approved spending up to $4,000 for Tampa Bay Engineering to analyze drainage issues along Tequesta Drive in the Seminole Lake Country Club subdivision. The area has experienced flooding.
- Tampa Bay Engineering also won a contract to design restrooms at Blossom Lake Park. The cost for the design will not exceed $20,000. The vote was unanimous.
- In another unanimous vote, council members awarded a contract to Morelli Landscaping to beautify the median along Park Boulevard. The cost is not to exceed $105,000.
