TAMPA - Earl Waters of Homosassa and Randy Hendrick of Clearwater caught a 2-fish aggregate of 11.85 pounds and won $900 in the Redfish Tour's Open Division tournament Saturday at Tampa's Bayside Marina.

Fishing in Mobbly Bay, at the north end of Tampa Bay, the winners targeted potholes in less than 2 feet of water. They caught nine redfish, mostly from 8 to 11 a.m.

Waters and Hendrick followed mullet, which stir up baitfish and crustaceans along shallow flats. Redfish run with them to pick off free meals.

They used scented shrimp baits fished on 1/4-ounce red jig heads. Hendrick likes the New Penny color, but in stirred conditions, white bodies enabled them to maintain visual contact with their baits.

KINGFISH CLASSIC: Buddy Bradham of Largo and the Mother Ocean team caught a 27.44-pound kingfish and won the West Marine Suncoast eventin Indian Rocks Beach. Top prize was $17,500. The winning fish hit a dead ballyhoo with a blue and white skirt rigged on double 7/0 hooks. Bradham and teammates Missy Bradham and Tanner Medlock of Largo and Karen Woekig of St. Petersburg, fished over natural hard bottom in 40 feet, 16 miles west of Clearwater Pass.

Woekig was top Lady Angler and Stephen Dellane was top Youth Angler.
