Saban happy in La., Saints not
Published October 31, 2005
BATON ROUGE, La. - Dolphins coach Nick Saban trotted off the field to applause, kissed a few women on the cheek, hugged other fans and signed autographs.
The former LSU coach was triumphant again in Tiger Stadium, spoiling the Saints' return to Louisiana.
"It's been wonderful," Saban said. "I really do feel like this was coming home to play a game and it was exciting for me even though I didn't say it (earlier)."
Miami's victory was the type of defensive masterpiece Saban made commonplace in Baton Rouge when his team won a BCS national title in 2003. His defense allowed two field goals, had a safety and kept Aaron Brooks off balance.
Ricky Williams showed signs of regaining form for the first time since his return to Miami, battering tacklers as he gained 82 yards on 17 carries. Ronnie Brown rushed for 106 yards.
BENSON ALTERCATION: Saints owner Tom Benson swatted at a New Orleans television station's camera and argued with a fan.
The WWL-TV camera crew said Benson lunged at them when they filmed him leaving the game and that the owner then got into a shouting match with a fan. Video of the incident shows Benson bringing a raised hand on the top of the camera before being eased away from the crew, which kept filming.
Benson could not be reached for comment and Saints officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Anger from Saints fans toward Benson stems from talks he apparently had with the San Antonio mayor about moving the team to Texas.
