Jose Fernandez has one week before his team opens its season after back-to-back WNIT appearances. The Bulls face three of last year's Final Four teams and a tough Big East schedule as they go for their first NCAA Tournament berth.
Best place you golfed in the offseason?
My brother Alex and I took a trip to Vegas, stayed right off the Strip, and we played six rounds in five days out there. I only started playing three years ago and wish I'd picked up the game earlier in my life.
Best round you've shot at Tampa Palms?
My best there is an 89.
Should so much have been made last week of WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes coming out publicly as a lesbian?
It's part of our game. I think because she was an MVP, because she won a world title in the WNBA, I think that's why it was brought out so heavily in the media. It's part of women's basketball.
What do you think of USF's men's basketball team and coach Robert McCullum?
I've sat in on his workouts and practices, and I've been very impressed with how good a teacher he is. He runs some great stuff offensively and in special situations. I've watched a lot of people coach, and once he gets the kids that fit into his system, he's going to be fine.
