PLANT CITY - A 17-year-old was arrested on outstanding warrants Monday night after a bail bondsman shot him in the torso and a driver rolled over his leg with a car.
Bail bondsman Jerry Perez, 44, was attempting to bring Givante Shaw of 607 Spruce St. in Plant City into custody on 14 outstanding warrants when he ordered Shaw out of the passenger side of a vehicle parked at 2506 Robin Drive in Plant City, authorities said.
Perez told authorities that when he approached the car with a Taser, he saw Shaw reach under the seat for what appeared to be a gun. Perez dropped the Taser, pulled his gun, fired at Shaw, then pulled Shaw out of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, a black four-door sedan - possibly a Honda or Nissan - then put the car in reverse, ran over Shaw's leg and struck a female witness. As the vehicle was fleeing, Perez fired several more times at the car, sheriff's officials said.
Shaw, who suffered a gunshot wound to the torso, was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with injuries that weren't life-threatening, a Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman said. The female witness was treated at the scene.
