Because of an abdominal injury, Riverview's Billy Bullock pitched just twice last season. Even so, that didn't keep colleges away.
And here's why.
"He's 6 foot 6 and throws the ball in the 90s," Sharks coach Bill Leiby said.
Bullock, who committed to Florida this year, plans to make it official next week. He will receive an athletic/academic scholarship that will cover tuition, room, board and books.
In one outing last spring before being injured, Bullock tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. He was 5-3 as a sophomore, Leiby said.
"He's probably going to be our No. 1," Leiby said. "He has three great pitches - a fastball, slider and changeup - and has command of all three."
MOVIN' ON UP: Recruiting site rivals.com has bumped Hillsborough quarterback Jarred Fayson up 25 spots to No. 48 in its most recent national top 100 list, which was released Tuesday. The 6-foot, 184-pound Fayson has looked strong this fall throwing and running the ball in leading the Terriers to an unbeaten regular season.
Fayson's top five includes, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami and West Virginia, Hillsborough coach Earl Garcia said. Southern California and Tennessee also are being considered. Fayson visited Alabama last weekend and will be at the Auburn-Georgia game on Nov. 12.
ANOTHER SQUAD IN THE MIX: There's a new team in the running for Jefferson tight end Trent Pupello. Florida, which has showed more interest in Pupello in recent weeks, has offered a scholarship. Pupello's father played for the Gators, but the Dragons standout said it isn't a slam dunk that he will end up in Gainesville. Florida State, for one, has recruited Pupello hard for some time and remains a favorite. He's also looking at Clemson, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina and South Florida.
