TAMPA - A Hillsborough County middle schooler was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital early Wednesday after he ran across Bloomingdale Avenue east of Duncan Road - right into the path of a pickup truck.

Yadie Calderon, 13, a sixth grader at Progress Village School of the Arts, "crossed right in front of" the 2003 Dodge Durango driven by 49-year-old Marilyn Chaisse, said Hillsborough Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

Caissee remained at the scene following the 6:30 a.m. crash, Carter said. Investigators have not filed charges in the case.

TGH spokeswoman Ellen Fiss said Calderon, 528 Sandy Creek Dr., is in serious condition.
