Q: North Carolina State coach Chuck Amato, the former FSU assistant, has a history of going after Miami-area kids and you were on his list, right?
A: He recruited me very hard, but I didn't want to leave Florida. I went for a visit up there; that was about it.
Q: What was his sales pitch like?
A: He told me, "I have a lot of Miami guys on my team so if you come up here, you're going to feel like you're back at home." But I didn't believe that because (I'd be) in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Q: You mean Raleigh's not like Miami
A: It was gloomy up there. I didn't like the atmosphere. ... It was cold and it was rainy; I didn't like that.
Q: So coach Amato's not a great pitchman?
A: No, he was a good salesman. ... It was a pretty good visit. I had a good time and met a lot of guys. ... But when it came down to it, I didn't want to be too far from mom.
