Current movies recommended by the Times:
1. Capote - Philip Seymour Hoffman is a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination playing author Truman Capote as he researches and writes In Cold Blood.
2. Good Night, and Good Luck - CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) challenges the communist hunting practices of Sen. Joseph McCarthy in George Clooney's gorgeous, thoughtful film.
3. North Country - Academy Award winners Charlize Theron, Sissy Spacek and Frances McDormand help make this fact-based tale of sexual harassment memorable.
4. Everything is Illuminated - A compulsive collector (Elijah Wood) travels to eastern Europe to locate the woman who saved his grandfather during the Holocaust. Directed with uncommon assurance by first-timer Liev Schreiber.
5. Jarhead - Short on politics and topicality, but Sam Mendes' stream-of consciousness chronicle of the first Gulf War is macho and occasionally miraculous.
