Two suspects sought in bank robberies

By Times Staff Writer
Published November 4, 2005

Two Pinellas County banks were robbed Thursday afternoon in what investigators think were unrelated incidents.

A lone man robbed the Cornerstone Community Bank at 7800 Seminole Boulevard in Seminole at about 12:15 p.m. No one saw a weapon and the robber received an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot.

Pinellas County sheriff's officials described the suspect as a white man in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5 feet 10 and 160 pounds. He appeared to have short brown hair with a receding hairline and a bald spot on the crown of his head.

He was wearing tan cargo shorts and a yellow, green and red Hawaiian shirt with sunglasses on top of his head. He also wore white athletic shoes with a wide dark horizontal stripe parallel with the laces.

In the second robbery, the suspect walked into the Bank of America at 14805 Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach just before 3 p.m. and demanded money. He implied that he had a weapon but did not show one to the bank employees, sheriff's officials said.

He also left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white man in his mid 40s, between 5-feet 6-inches and 5-feet 9-inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds. The man was unshaven with short salt-and-pepper hair. He was wearing tan shorts a medium or dark blue pullover shirt and a dark blue ball cap.

Sheriff's officials encouraged anyone with information about either suspect to call the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office robbery unit at (727) 582-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
