Lions end season on high note

Hernando Christian ended its season with a 35-0 win over Heritage Prep on Thursday.

It was the Lions' fourth straight victory, capping a season (6-4) that sits in stark contrast to 2004, when they didn't win until their last game.

"I told the kids that you can learn how to lose, but you can also learn how to win," coach Steve Johnson said. "And it's a lot more fun winning."

Corey Drummond scored the first touchdown on a 14-yard run. Quarterback Stephen Johnson completed 12-of-15 for 134 yards and two touchdowns. The rushing game clicked, too, gaining almost 210 yards on 26 carries.

Ryan Walczak ended his high school career with two touchdowns, including a 58-yard punt return. He shed some tears after the game.

"We're losing six starting seniors and those guys were emotional," Johnson said. "At least they went out big."
