TAMPA - Fighting back twice from two-touchdown deficits, Tampa Baptist defeated winless Temple Heights Christian 21-18 in a season-ending game Saturday.
"It was a tough, hard-fought game, but when you only dress 16 players, it's very hard to win," said Temple Heights Christian coach Steve Lewis.
C.J. Pate got Tampa Baptist (2-8) back in the game with a 68-yard run after the Rams had fallen behind by two touchdowns early.
Temple Heights (0-10) had scored on a 16-yard reception from quarterback Michael Miller to wide receiver Chaki Smith to open the scoring. A 1-yard quarterback sneak by Miller increased the lead to 12-0. Miller added another touchdown on a short sneak in the third quarter to put his team up 18-6.
In the fourth quarter Tampa Baptist scored twice, as quarterback Luke Johnson hit Amando Jonesia with a 46-yarder and Jonesia scored again when he ran a sweep into the end zone from 16 yards out, giving the Rams the lead for good.
Fullback Morgan Gibson gained 80 yards on 15 carries for Tampa Baptist.
