EARLSBORO, Okla. - The Hanna High School basketball team can take some consolation: It didn't get shut out.
It did, however, lose 112-2 on Friday night to Earlsboro.
"It was embarrassing to watch," Earlsboro coach Jim Walling told th e Oklahoman . "But you can't just tell your kids not to score. I've been coaching 27 years and have never been involved in something like this."
The Wildcats led 42-0 after one quarter and 73-2 at halftime. Walling pulled his starters in the second half, and game officials kept a running clock, stopping it only for free throws.
Each player on Earlsboro's 10-man roster scored. Seven finished in double figures.
COACH IS KING: The winningest high school football coach in Arkansas history - already in the National High School Hall of Fame - ended his career with a victory. Frank McClellan got his 367th win Thursday when Barton beat Augusta 42-24. McClellan, who began his career in Mississippi in 1967, is in his 35th season at Barton.
He's ready to retire.
"I think it's time for me to get out," McClellan said the day of his final game. "I told my wife before the season started that this was probably going to be it for me."
McClellan's final game had no playoff implications. Barton wound up 4-6, handing McClellan his first losing record.
McClellan's teams won eight state championships, the most recent in 1997. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003.
KICKER IS QUEEN: Darby Lentz wore football cleats instead of high heels when she stepped onto Lincoln High's football field in Charleston, W.Va., at halftime to be crowned homecoming queen.
"It was awesome," the 17-year-old kicker said. "I didn't have a clue. It was awesome when they called my name."
Lentz, a senior, was prom queen this year. She's also a member of student council and has a 3.8 grade-point average. She thought about playing football during her junior year and decided to try out for the team this summer.
"I'm the only girl, but it doesn't bother me," she said. "The guys do a really good job of holding the line back."
