Boat parade is set for Saturday

MADEIRA BEACH - The ninth annual Veterans Boat Parade will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The parade will proceed from just north of Tom Stuart Causeway in Madeira Beach, south to Treasure Island Causeway and back. The proposed route will include Boca Ciega Bay, John's Pass, and the large canals of Capri Isles, Isle of Palms and Paradise Island. It will end at the American Legion. A captains' party will be held at the Elks Club after the parade. For more information, call 374-2650 or visit veteransboatparade.org.

Indian Rocks Beach

The first Sunset Serenade, sponsored by the North Beaches Branch YMCA, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Nature Preserve at 903 Gulf Blvd. The event will include a sunset serenade and a wine tasting sponsored by Century 21 Plumlee Realty. The wine-tasting will feature many wines at three pavilions scattered around the park. Hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Guppy's on the Beach, and a cash bar also will be available. Entertainment will be provided by Lorna Bracewell. The cost for the event is $25 per person for tickets purchased in advance and $35 at the gate. A silent auction of works by the Pleine Aire Cottage Artists and Larry Pumfrey will also be featured. Proceeds benefit programs offered by the YMCA. There is no parking on the site, but a YMCA Shuttle will run from the Holiday Inn Harbourside, 401 Second St. For more information or tickets, call the YMCA at 595-5610.

Redington Shores

St. Pete Beach

The annual Family Fall Festival, sponsored by the city recreation department, has been rescheduled for Nov. 19 because of Hurricane Wilma. The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Upham Beach (6850 Beach Plaza). Radio Disney will entertain until 6 p.m., followed by light music. Activities for kids will include Radio Disney games and face painting. For more information, call 363-9245.

A concert, "Angel of the Storm," will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday to raise funds for hurricane victims. The concert is sponsored by St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 445 82nd Ave. Music will be provided by St. John's contemporary choir, directed by Donald Noonan and Christian singer and songwriter Annie Karto. Lilly, a vivacious and overly imaginative young mouse - and star of a popular picture book, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, by award-winning children's author Kevin Henkes - is coming to the St. Pete Beach Library at 2 p.m. Sunday. Lilly is also the star of an American Stage-produced play currently traveling to classes and community groups throughout the Tampa Bay area. The performance will include puppetry, music and surprises to bring the colorful world of Lilly and her friends to life. An interactive talk-back session with artists from American Stage will follow. South Pasadena

A stop smoking seminar will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Boca Ciega Room at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, 1609 Pasadena Ave. S. The program combines the power of hypnosis with behavior modification. Stop smoking participants will learn to stop smoking without weight gain or withdrawals in one convenient session. The first 45 minutes of each session is a free orientation. The Treasure Island Action Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at the Community Center, 1 Park Place and 106th Avenue. The Action Club is open to Treasure Island residents who are 55 or older. This month's meeting will feature entertainment by Windy and Sonny with comedy, balloons and magic acts.

The annual Treasure Island Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Dec. 3 at the Treasure Island Community Center and Park, Gulf Boulevard at 106th Avenue. The parade will start at 4 p.m. at Treasure Bay, 10315 Paradise Blvd., and move down 107th Avenue, around the Clock Tower to First Street E, and turn right on 106th Avenue to the Community Center. The parade will feature the Admiral Farragut marching band, Santa and Mrs. Claus, antique cars, Mrs. Pinellas County America, local clubs and organizations, and more. After the parade, children will be able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Community Center from 5 to 6:30 pm. At 6:45 p.m., Santa and Mayor Mary Maloof will light the city's holiday decorations. Additional activities will include face painting, balloon twisting, story-telling elves, a singing Holiday Troubadour and refreshments. The event is free.
