Veterans Day parade is Friday

SEMINOLE - The annual Veterans Day Parade will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The parade, which will include veterans units, military vehicles and officials, will start at 80th Avenue N at the corner of the Seminole Mall and head north on 113th Street to the Seminole Library, 9200 113th St. The parade will include two high school JROTC marching units, veterans' vehicles, including the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association and marching color guards. A special program at the library will be after the parade at 11 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Marine Maj. Howard Hall, who has just returned from his second tour of duty in Iraq, where he helped train Iraqi troops. Other speakers include Mayor Dottie Reeder; Wallace Hopkins, director of the Bay Pines Medical Center; Dr. James Olliver, provost of St. Petersburg College; and Mike O'Meara, president of the Liaison Council of Pinellas. Patients at Bay Pines VA Medical Center will attend. Music will be provided by Keswick Christian School and the newly formed Little Hometown Soldiers. The event is co-sponsored by the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council, the City of Seminole and St. Petersburg College. For more information, call Alan G. Culture is coming to Seminole in the form of three concerts performed by the Suncoast Symphony Orchestra. The concert series, sponsored by the Seminole Recreation Department, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Holland G. Magnum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N. Future concerts will be held Feb. 5 and May 7. The Suncoast Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1984, is conducted by Theodore DeCorso, who previously served as the Fairbanks Youth Orchestra Director, as well as director for musical theater productions including Trouble in Tahiti, Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, Guys and Dolls and South Pacific. Tickets are $5 and available only at the door on concert nights. Refreshments will be for sale at each concert. For more information, call 391-8345.

The Seminole Recreation Complex will sponsor a trip to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday. The cost is $16 per person, and a recreation card is required. The group will stop for lunch at a Tampa restaurant. For more information, call Dan at 391-8345.

Seminole United Methodist Church will host its annual bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The third annual Multi-Chamber Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Seminole Mall. Vendors will display a variety of products and services. The annual Thanksgiving luncheon at the Seminole Recreation Complex will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15. The cost for the luncheon is $7 per person, and reservations must be made by Saturday. The meal will include turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, rolls, two kinds of pies and ice cream. The Maple Syrup Serenaders from Connecticut will provide entertainment after lunch, followed by an afternoon matinee showing of The Emperor's New Clothes. No recreation card is needed to attend. Renninger's Antique Extravaganza in Mount Dora will be the subject of a trip for seniors sponsored by the Seminole Recreation Center on Nov. 19. The antique show features 1,200 dealers from across the country, a flea market and vegetable market. The Seminole Chamber of Commerce, Seminole Mall and the city of Seminole will present the first ever Seminole Holiday Night Parade, "Bright Before Your Eyes," beginning at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20. The parade will start at the Seminole Recreation Center and travel down 113th Street, ending at Seminole Mall. At the conclusion of the procession, Santa will officially open the holiday season. Entries ($25) for the parade are being accepted at the Seminole Chamber office, 8400 113th St. N. The parade replaces Seminole Mall's day-after-Thanksgiving parade.
