Sheriff's risk manager resigns over allegations

By Times Staff Writer
Published November 10, 2005

TAMPA - The risk manager for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has resigned after a WFTS-Ch. 28 reporter confronted him with allegations of drinking on the job and then driving in a sheriff's-issued car.

Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said risk manager Charles Downie called Sheriff David Gee last Thursday and told him that he'd been confronted by the cameras. Downie admitted that the allegations were true, and Gee asked for his resignation.

The resignation, Carter said, was effective the same day.
