BEACH PARK/CULBREATH HEIGHTS - It's pothole-free cruising on Lois Avenue. Transportation crews began resurfacing the road from Cleveland Street to Henderson Boulevard on Oct. 26. Workers closed the street at various stages throughout the $300,000 project.

To smooth the road, workers removed and replaced 3 to 6 inches of asphalt along the milelong stretch, city transportation manager Roy LaMotte Jr. said.

"This puts back a good finish that will last for 20 years," he said.

LaMotte expected the workers to complete the project Wednesday.

Portion of Platt Street closed after cave-in

HYDE PARK NORTH - A wastewater cave-in has Platt Street closed to traffic from Plant Avenue to Bayshore Boulevard through Monday, city officials said.

The cave-in happened when a 24-inch wastewater pipe broke.

Through traffic will be detoured north on Plant Avenue to Kennedy Boulevard. Access to local businesses will be available via Plant Avenue and Cardy Street. No wastewater has overflowed from the cave-in, and the wastewater system in the area is functioning properly.
