Seminole company outfits the state

If you've ever wondered who makes those stylish uniforms worn by the Florida Highway Patrol, the state Department of Environmental Protection or the Wildlife Commission, wonder no more.

Superior Uniform Group Inc. of Seminole won a five-year contract worth $8.2-million to provide work wear for many of the state's agencies. That includes an FHP mesh baseball cap ($7.15 each), a clip-on tie for parks and recreation personnel ($3.25) and a straw campaign-style hat for Florida wildlife agents ($60.22).

Superior Uniform, which has been quietly stitching up everything from restaurant server to golf pro gear for more than 80 years, has supplied a number of Florida agencies in the past. But the new contract gives it entree to more agencies and more workers. County and municipal workers also will be offered the same contract rates provided to the state.

Offers, however, do not extend to members of the general public who may be hankering for items like a trooper's orange safety vest ($38.80).
