Snowbird Web site off to a flying start

Snowbirds need a place to call their own, at least online. So Summer Martin created SnowBirdy.

The cartoon bird is the mascot for a new Web site (www.snowbirdy.com) the centerpiece of a line of apparel and touristy-type items, and the hopes for Martin to have a business to run out of her home in Holiday in Pasco County.

"We came up with the bird and the whole concept," said Martin, 27, a five-year area resident. "People like cute stuff to wear."

Martin and her husband, Eric, think snowbirds need information on things to do and places to see. Visits to the month-old site are rising, she says, and potential advertisers are inquiring. While Martin wants to expand SnowBirdy.com, she has to squeeze in time for her regular job as a Web designer and graphic artist, as well as for her almost 8-month-old daughter.

As for the name, that's technical. Said Martin: "We were trying to find a name that wasn't taken in the domain (registrations). That was kind of catchy."
