MIAMI - Dolphins QB Gus Frerotte 's status is uncertain for Sunday's game at Cleveland after injuring the index finger on his throwing hand in a loss to the Patriots.
"Gus hit his finger on a helmet at the end of the game," coach Nick Saban said. "It didn't affect him in the game. But he has a significant amount of swelling in it, and any time you get that kind of situation, we'll have to assess it day to day. We'll see where he is on Wednesday."
The injury occurred in the second quarter, when Frerotte's finger hit the helmet of LB Monty Beisel . He continued playing without missing a snap.
Frerotte, who had his most productive game of the season by passing for 360 yards and two touchdowns, declined to be interviewed Monday. He was in the training room getting treatment to take the swelling out of the finger.
He also did not return a message left on his cell phone. "I'll talk about it Wednesday," was the entirety of his comment in a statement released by the team.
Other than Saban's comment, the Dolphins were either mum or unaware of Frerotte's injury.
BILLS: QB Kelly Holcomb was still having headaches, the day after suffering a concussion in a 14-3 win over Kansas City. Coach Mike Mularkey said he hasn't determined whether Holcomb or J.P. Losman will start Sunday at San Diego. The team also lost S Troy Vincent , who did not return after hurting his left shoulder.
BROWNS: Rookie WR Braylon Edwards has a suggestion for coach Romeo Crennel - just give him the ball. "It's time for me to make plays," the first-round pick said. "That's what it's time for." Edwards has split playing time with Dennis Northcutt .
COLTS: S Bob Sanders has no ligament or structural damage in the knee he injured in Sunday's win over Houston.
JETS: OT Jason Fabini was placed on injured reserve after tearing a pectoral muscle. He joins starting C Kevin Mawae (triceps) as members of the offensive line lost this season. "For some reason, the dark cloud won't go away," coach Herman Edwards said. Edwards also talked about being mentioned as a successor to his mentor, Dick Vermeil , if the Chiefs coach retires at the end of the season. Edwards said is aware of the rumors and that "it's nice to hear other people want you." But he added, "I want to coach this team as long as I coach. When they tell me I can't coach here anymore, I'll move on."
TEXANS: RT Todd Wade will likely require surgery to repair an injured knee. He's the third starter to go down on a line that has allowed a league-high 46 sacks.
