TAMPA - Hillsborough County domestic violence victims will get extra protection with a home security system operated by ADT Security Services, the Spring of Tampa Bay, the Tampa Police Department and the Sheriff's Office.
On Tuesday, officials announced the launch of AWARE, a home security system that sends a silent alarm to ADT and law enforcement when a resident is facing attack.
Victims can push a button mounted in the home or on a pendant. ADT is paying for the program, estimated to cost $50,000 over five years.
The systems will go to domestic violence victims who are placed in the program because they are deemed to be in imminent danger, who have secured restraining orders and agreed to press charges against their attackers.
"We will make as many available as are needed," said ADT spokeswoman Cathy Barto Meyer.
