Panthers trio pick colleges

TAMPA - Three Plant athletes signed letters of intent Tuesday: outfielder Dylan Brown with Oklahoma State, infielder Ryan McCurdy with Duke and crew standout Hillary Trupp with Miami.

Brown, who plays centerfield, batted .320 last season. An exceptional athlete, he also is a standout wide receiver for the Panthers.

"He's having a great year, and I expect that to continue into baseball," Plant baseball coach Dennis Braun said. "He can hit the ball as far as any kid I've seen at this level."

McCurdy, a shortstop with great range, hit .400 as a junior and was a Times' honorable mention all-county choice.

"He's the spark plug of the team," Braun said. "He's not a real big guy, but whether he's on the field or in class he's the kid who excels at everything. And that's why he's going to Duke."
