Miami mayor re-elected

MIAMI - Miami Mayor Manny Diaz won a second term by a wide margin Tuesday in an election delayed two weeks by Hurricane Wilma.

Diaz beat four long-shot challengers in the nonpartisan election. With all precincts reporting, he had 17,031 votes, or 65 percent. Radio personality Enrique Santos, his closest challenger, had 6,828 votes, or 26 percent.

Turnout was light: about 18 percent of eligible voters.

Diaz was widely expected to win after the jobless rate improved, crime declined and city management became more effective.
