A convicted sex offender who may be armed and suicidal was suspected of abducting a 17-year-old girl, police said Thursday.

An Amber Alert was issued for Dialys Ramos, who disappeared Wednesday and was last seen in Hialeah. The man believed to have kidnapped her is Robert Laird, 39, of Miami, who was previously convicted of lewd or lascivious battery on a victim 12 to 15 years old, police said.

They may be traveling in an orange Mazda 6 with the Florida tag P233GW, police said. No other details on the girl's disappearance were released.

Miami-Dade County police issued a missing person's alert for Laird late Wednesday, saying he left his home with a handgun. He also left behind a note saying he planned to commit suicide, police spokesman Detective Robert Williams said. He had no other details.

Dialys is white and 5-foot-2, weighs 105 pounds and has auburn hair and green eyes. Laird is black and 5-foot-11, weighs 180 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, police said.
