TAMPA - Police on Thursday identified the elderly man who died this week while crossing Hillsborough Avenue, and they issued a citation to the young female driver who hit him.
Police say Sabrina E. Stauffer, 22, was turning west onto Hillsborough Avenue from northbound 22nd Street about 9 a.m. Wednesday. She failed to see Felite Laracuente, 84, who was making his way through the crosswalk. Stauffer hit him with her 1997 Nissan Altima.
Rescue workers rushed Laracuente of 3518 N 12th St. in Tampa to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died.
Stauffer of 3806 E 32nd Ave. in Tampa was cited for a violation of the right of way that caused serious injury or death. She will have to appear in court.
It was Sabrina E. Stauffer's fourth traffic citation this year. County records show she has already received citations this year for operating with unsafe equipment, failing to display a tag, and driving without a tag.
In August, she was found guilty of possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.
