5A REGION SEMIFINAL

WHO: Dixie Hollins (9-2) at Manatee (7-3)

LAST WEEK: The Rebels beat Countryside 21-7; the Hurricanes beat Cape Coral 27-20.

THE SKINNY: Dixie Hollins can expect a heavy dose of running back Chris McNear, who carried the ball 31 times for 311 yards and two touchdowns last week as the Hurricanes sneaked past the Seahawks. Coach Joe Kinnan, who has won four state titles at Manatee, returned to the sideline last year after a four-year layoff.

5A REGION SEMIFINAL

WHO: Venice (4-7) at Largo (9-2)

LAST WEEK: The Indians beat Fort Myers 28-0; the Packers beat Dunedin 23-0.

THE SKINNY: Don't let Venice's meager record fool you; the Indians are a big, physical team that will pose problems for an undersized Largo defense. The visiting Indians face a loud Largo crowd, but Venice went on the road last week to upset No. 3 and previously unbeaten Fort Myers.

2A REGION FINAL

WHO: St. Petersburg Catholic (8-3) at Clewiston (7-3)

LAST WEEK: The Barons beat Cardinal Newman 49-36; Clewiston beat Tampa Catholic 33-28.

THE SKINNY: Clewiston and SPC share a common opponent in Cardinal Newman, a team the Barons hung 49 points on last week. Clewiston beat Cardinal Newman 37-34 this season, so expect a high-scoring shootout.

2B REGION FINAL

WHO: Cardinal Mooney (7-4) at Clearwater Central Catholic (9-2)

LAST WEEK: The Marauders beat Crescent City 35-7; the Cougars beat the Villages 48-22.

THE SKINNY: After dropping their first two games of the season, the Marauders have ripped off nine straight wins. CCC beat Cardinal Mooney 21-16 on Oct. 28 to wrap up the district title.
