MINNEAPOLIS - Kevin Garnett had 25 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists and Richie Frahm hit key shots in the fourth quarter to lead the Timberwolves to a 109-98 victory over the Wizards on Thursday night.
Six Timberwolves scored in double figures as Minnesota snapped a two-game losing streak. The Wizards had five players in double figures, led by Gilbert Arenas' 33, but no one could prevent Garnett from filling up the stat sheet.
"When he gets going, it's hard to stop him," Washington's Caron Butler said. "What makes him special is he was finding his teammates and they were knocking down shots."
With the Wolves hanging on to an 86-83 lead in the fourth, Wally Szczerbiak dived for a loose ball and passed ahead to Frahm for a dunk. Then, after Troy Hudson took a charge, Frahm hit a 3-pointer to make it 93-83 with 6:07 left.
"We just played with a sense of urgency and we knew we had to get this one," said Hudson, who scored 16.
Minnesota shot 53.5 percent from the field with Garnett hitting 12-of-19 shots and Frahm hitting 6-of-7.
SPURS 86, ROCKETS 80: Tim Duncan had 19 points and nine rebounds, and host San Antonio held off a late surge by Houston. San Antonio dominated inside, scoring 52 in the paint.
MAVS 87, HAWKS 78: Visiting Atlanta got within 81-77 on Joe Johnson's three-point play with 2:12 left, but Dallas finished with a 6-1 run over the final 1:36 to extend the Hawks' season-opening losing streak to eight.
DIVAC TO ADDRESS DRAFT: After having charges filed against him by the army in his native Serbia-Montenegro for failing to report for the draft, former center Vlade Divac headed home to sort things out. Serbian media said Divac returned to Belgrade and would meet today with defense minister Zoran Stankovic. Divac didn't sound worried, and maintained he has been "filing all the necessary documents required for postponing army duties on a regular basis."
RODMAN SIGNS WITH IBL: Former NBA star Dennis Rodman signed a two-game contract to play with the Cedar Valley Jaguars of the International Basketball League on May 19-20. Terms were not released. League officials said they could not afford to keep him longer.
JAZZ: Forward Carlos Boozer will miss at least another month because of a hamstring injury that has kept him from playing this season.
MAVS: Guard Doug Christie missed the Hawks game and will be sidelined indefinitely with a sore right ankle.
