NEW YORK - The Padres acquired outfielder Mike Cameron from the Mets for utility player Xavier Nady on Friday.
Before the Padres agreed to complete the deal, they wanted to make sure Cameron's vision was okay following a face-to-face collision with teammate Carlos Beltran in the outfield at Petco Park on Aug. 11 that ended Cameron's season.
Cameron and Beltran collided while pursuing a sinking liner. Cameron sustained a concussion, a broken nose and two fractured cheekbones. The two-time Gold Glove winner had surgery a day later.
Nady, a second-round draft pick in the 2000 amateur draft, was billed as a super-sub last season, playing at first and third base, and all outfield positions.
DODGERS: General manager Ned Colletti plans to meet with Jim Fregosi and Terry Collins in Tampa over the weekend to discuss the team's vacant managerial position.
MARLINS: Rick Kranitz was hired as the pitching coach after spending the past 22 seasons in the Cubs' organization. Kranitz was the pitching coach for the Cubs' Triple-A Iowa affiliate the past two seasons.
RANGERS: Orel Hershiser resigned as pitching coach to become the team's executive director, appearing to end his rumored candidacy for the vacant managerial spot.
RED SOX: The team will interview White Sox director of player development David Wilder today for their vacant general manager job.
