Tonight: USF vs. Jacksonville

By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer
Published November 25, 2005

WHEN/WHERE: 7:05; Sun Dome, Tampa.

TV/RADIO: 1250-AM.

RECORDS: USF 1-0, Jacksonville 0-1.

COACHES: USF - Robert McCullum (22-36, third season; 66-81 overall); Jacksonville - Cliff Warren (0-1, first season).

NOTABLE: The Bulls opened with a 69-52 win against Alcorn State, and the Dolphins fell 78-48 to Florida State. ... USF is thin at point guard, where walk-on Chris Capko likely will start in place of sophomore Collin Dennis (Achilles' tendon). Capko's only backups are walkons, so guard James Holmes (team-high 21 points vs. Alcorn) might be in for a 40-minute night, filling in at the point when Capko needs a spell. ... Center Solomon Jones (16 points, 14 rebounds) should have another strong night, as Jacksonville has only one player over 6-foot-8. Jones' only backup, freshman Frane Markusovic, didn't play in the opener, even when Jones left the game with severe cramps. . ... Junior forward McHugh Mattis, who had 15 rebounds against Alcorn St., is making a case to replace another first-year Bull, junior Melvyn Richardson, in the starting lineup. ... The Dolphins are led by senior guard Jesse Kimbrough, who scored nine vs. FSU. ... Warren, 37, is a former Georgia Tech assistant hired in April to replace coaching legend Hugh Durham.
