TAMPA - Police are investigating the Wednesday slaying of a Tampa man during a home invasion.

Solomon David Elson, 30, was shot several times shortly before midnight, Tampa police said. The shooting followed a scuffle with three or four men at his mother's home on E Fern Street, police said. Elson died at the scene. The men forced their way into the home, a Tampa police report said. Once inside, they demanded her property. Witnesses told police the men left in a black sports utility vehicle and a blue Chevrolet, possibly an Impala. Anyone with information was asked to call Tampa police at (813) 231-6130 or Crime Stoppers at 800-873-8477.
