Jay Theodore Rowman died Wednesday night at Tampa General Hospital, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said Sunday.
Hillsborough sheriff's Deputy Scott Morrill shot Rowman, 39, during an Oct. 28 incident off Tom Folsom Road, just east of U.S. 301 in the Thonotosassa area.
When Morrill tried to pull Rowman over, deputies said, Rowman turned onto Mark St., a tiny road with no outlet. Deputy Jeremy Poston responded as backup.
As Rowman tried to turn his car around, he rammed Poston's car twice, authorities said. The deputies approached Rowman's car, ordering him to stop and get out.
As Rowman tried to flee in his car, he pinned Poston between his vehicle and a parked pickup truck and tried to run them over, according to the deputies. Morrill fired, striking Rowman in the upper body.
The Hillsborough State Attorney's Office found the officers were not at fault in the shooting, Carter said.
Rowman had been charged with one count of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
He had an extensive arrest record that included charges of domestic violence, aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, harassment, resisting an officer and kidnapping/false imprisonment.
