LAWRENCE, Kan. - For the second straight season, Iowa State let the North division title slip away in overtime.
Scott Webb's 34-yard field goal gave Kansas a 24-21 win Saturday, preventing the Cyclones from playing in their first conference title game.
Last season, Iowa State needed to win at home against a Missouri team that entered 4-6 to reach the title game. But it lost 17-14 after Bret Culbertson missed a 24-yard field goal at the end of regulation.
Colorado, which lost 30-3 to Nebraska on Friday, reached the title game for the second straight year and faces Texas on Saturday.
Down 14-6 in the fourth, the Jayhawks, who became bowl eligible for the second time in coach Mark Mangino's four seasons, had it fourth and goal at the 1. Quarterback Brian Luke, who replaced the injured Jason Swanson in the fourth, appeared to be stopped on a sneak. As Iowa State celebrated, Kansas called timeout, giving the replay booth more time to review the play.
The call was overturned, and Luke hit tight end Derek Fine for the two-point conversion to tie it.
The Cyclones responded when Bret Meyer, whose school record of passes without an interception ended at 155, hit Todd Blythe for 38 yards and Austin Flynn for 17. That set up Ryan Kock's 1-yard touchdown run with 8:41 left.
Luke threw incomplete on fourth and 14 from the Iowa State 30 with 2:53 left on Kansas' next series. But Kansas forced a quick punt and took over at its 42 with 1:49 left. Luke completed passes on all four plays of the drive, including 35 yards to Marcus Henry followed by a 15-yard touchdown to Dexton Fields with 1:05 left.
In overtime, Iowa State's Culbertson missed a 41-yard field goal. Then three runs got Kansas to the 17 and set up Webb.
OKLA. 42, OKLA. ST. 14: Adrian Peterson ran for 237 yards and two scores for the host Sooners. The Cowboys had one first down and no yards of offense on their first seven series before Al Pena scrambled and hit Luke Frazier for 56 yards to the 4. Julius Crosslin's 1-yard run pulled Oklahoma State to 21-7. Peterson, held to 27 yards on 11 first-half carries, made it 28-7 in the third when he ran around the right end, passed two downfield blocks and went untouched for an 84-yard score. Crosslin's second touchdown run made it 28-14. But on the next play, Peterson went 71 yards down the left side for another score.
