Black Sabbath, whose lead singer Ozzy Osbourne once called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame vote "totally irrelevant," joined Miles Davis and the Sex Pistols as the hall's latest inductees Monday.
Also in the class of 2006 are Blondie and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, who founded A&M records in 1962, will receive a lifetime achievement award in the nonperformer category.
Inductees into the side-men category will be announced later.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan.
Musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the nominations. Artists are eligible to be inducted after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.
"Simple Life' goes to E!, with stars separated
Feuding ex-friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie will take The Simple Life to E! Entertainment Television in a new format that allows them to have nothing to do with each other.
Fox had declined to air a fourth season of the one-time reality hit, but E! said Monday it would show 10 new episodes starting in the spring.
The fourth season will have Hilton and Richie taking turns playing a "wife" and running households, with the family involved each week deciding which of the two did a better job.
If Hilton and Richie are still not talking, the format allows for filming to take place with each woman not coming into contact with the other, said Chris Alexander, spokesman for Twentieth Century Fox Television.
