Crash victim identified as Hudson resident

A man killed Sunday afternoon in a crash that downed a power line and left 600 customers without power for hours has been identified as 70-year-old Howard A. Breighner of 9722 Clyde St. in Hudson.

A man killed Sunday afternoon in a crash that downed a power line and left 600 customers without power for hours has been identified as 70-year-old Howard A. Breighner of 9722 Clyde St. in Hudson.

The crash occurred at 1:54 p.m. near State Road 52 and Shadow Ridge Boulevard, but officials said it was not related to a power outage that affected more than 30,000 people in Pasco and Hernando counties. Howard Breighner was driving and Dennis W. Breighner was in a 1987 GMC Sierra headed west on SR 52 when the vehicle struck a curb and continued onto the shoulder of SR 52, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The pickup began spinning, and the driver's side hit a utility pole, the report said. Howard Breighner was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where he was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. Dennis Breighner suffered minor injuries.

Nelson to meet public in New Port Richey

NEW PORT RICHEY - U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson will meet with Pasco County residents during a town hall meeting in New Port Richey today. Nelson is expected to discuss his legislation that would give seniors more time to sign up for Medicare's new prescription drug plan as well as his plans to reform the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the West Pasco Government Center at 7530 Little Road in New Port Richey. The Democrat is up for re-election next year and is visiting Florida's 67 counties.
