DADE CITY - Jury selection began Monday in the first-degree murder and attempted murder trial of Timothy Hahn, the Michigan man accused in the 2003 vehicular rampage that killed one and almost killed another.

Authorities say a chance encounter led to a brawl at a Land O'Lakes Radiant convenience store at State Road 54 and Collier Parkway. During the fight, Hahn is accused of getting back into his vehicle and three times ramming it into Todd Byers, a 40-year-old tugboat captain who was in town visiting family. His sister-in-law, Patty Byers, was also injured and left in critical condition but has since recovered.

Hahn was arrested days later in Tennessee, and the vehicle was found submerged in a Lutz pond. Hahn faces life in prison if convicted.
