Treasure Island Causeway Bridge to close today

Bad weather conditions postponed the planned closure of the Treasure Island Causeway Bridge on Tuesday.

The causeway will be closed to traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. today for post-tensioning activities. Westbound traffic on the causeway will be turned back at 79th Street to Causeway Boulevard N or S. Eastbound causeway traffic will detour at 104th Avenue, except for local traffic to the Treasure Island Yacht Club and Paradise Boulevard.

Detour routes to and from Treasure Island during the bridge closure are the Madeira Beach Causeway to the north and the Corey Causeway in St. Pete Beach to the south. The Treasure Island Causeway Bridge will be operational for boats that need an opening. Bridge opening times are at 20 past the hour, 40 past and at the top of the hour, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The bridge opens on demand from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The St. Petersburg Lawn Bowling Club's winter season is on. At 536 Fourth Ave. N., the club is the oldest in Florida, the 10th oldest in the United States and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Free instruction and general information will be from 9 a.m.-noon. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The only equipment required is a pair of flat soled shoes.

The club is also partnering with the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club from 7-11 p.m. every Friday for shuffleboard, lawn bowling, music, food and fellowship. For information, call 823-8143.
