Daily fishing report
By DAVE WALKER
Published November 30, 2005
Snook fishing on the flats is still productive. Typically, December marks the end of good shallows fishing in Tampa Bay as tides are not favorable and the cooler water is undesirable to many species.
But there are exceptions. On a recent trip, we used live chum and hooked up on snook, redfish and trout almost instantly. The bait of choice was live sardines. Ours were rather small, but they produced. Greenbacks are harder to find lately, but work great when you can get them. But as winter conditions approach, they will not be as effective.
Mangrove snapper are being caught adjacent to rock piles and the edges of shipping channels. Live shrimp are best for bait. As the water cools, more fish species will prefer feeding on shrimp.
