PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Michelle Campbell scored 18 and Cappie Pondexter added 16 to help No.6 Rutgers roll past Bethune-Cookman 73-48 on Tuesday night.
Rutgers (3-0) shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the field in the first half to take a 35-26 lead. Bethune-Cookman stayed close as Keturah Newkirk hit four of the Wildcats' five 3-pointers in the half.
Bethune-Cookman narrowed the gap to 37-30 in the first three minutes of the second half, but Rutgers, with its full-court pressure defense, used a 25-2 run over the next 15 minutes to put the game away.
Pondexter hit an assortment of drives and jumpers, and Campbell went 7-of-8 on mostly short jumpers in the lane.
Newkirk had 15 points and Katie Clark 12 to lead Bethune-Cookman.
NO.7 UNC 83, UNC-ASHEVILLE 43: Erlana Larkins scored 13 in 23 minutes and Ivory Latta had 11 points and nine assists for the host Tar Heels (5-0). North Carolina led 42-25 at halftime and closed with a 24-7 run over the final 12 minutes. LaToya Pringle added 13 points in 13 minutes. With the game in hand, only Latta and Larkins played more than 20 minutes.
NO.11 NOTRE DAME 74, IONA 55: Megan Duffy scored 13 of her 21 during a decisive 16-4 run early in the second half, pacing the host Irish (5-0). The Gaels scored the first two baskets of the second half to cut their deficit to 36-32. Duffy, who shot 2-of-10 in the first half, hit a 3-pointer early in the second to get Notre Dame going. She hit her next four shots, including two 3s, to extend the lead to 52-36.
NO.18 TEMPLE 60, MD.-EASTERN SHORE 53: Candice Dupree scored 17 and Lady Comfort and Khadija Bowens had eight rebounds each for the visiting Owls (6-0).
NO.22 PURDUE 95, ARKANSAS ST. 58: Katie Gearlds scored 17 and Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton 16 for the host Boilermakers (3-1), who led 62-25 at halftime, their second-most points ever in a half.
FLA. GULF COAST 79, FLA. SOUTHERN 39: Candy Myers had 19 points to lead four players in double figures for the visiting Eagles (7-0).
USF: Jessica Dickson was named Big East player of the week for the week ending Monday. Dickson, an All-America candidate, helped the Bulls go 3-0 while averaging 28.3 points and seven rebounds. She was MVP of the Best Western Roundball Classic.
