Building near Three Sisters is considered

A meeting will focus on development plans for one of the last pieces of undeveloped waterfront land in Crystal River.

CRYSTAL RIVER - Representatives from the Three Sisters Springs project are scheduled to meet with staff at City Hall today to discuss potential development on the property.

During this preapplication conference, "We'll sit down and talk about different parts of the land development code and they can tell us what they have in mind," said Kurt Woerner, director of planning and community development for Crystal River.

The 58-acre site is zoned medium density residential, with a density restriction of eight housing units per acre. Such parameters could accommodate structures ranging from single-family homes to condominiums, Woerner said.

"We haven't seen any plans yet, but the rumor mill is always at work," he said. "I'm sure the development will be residential."

Honey Rand, a spokeswoman for the project, said today's meeting would be "very preliminary," and said the owners had no specific plans for the property yet.

"This will give them a chance to ask questions about the regulations," she said. "They shouldn't spend lots of money on architects and planning if it goes against the rules of the community."

The Three Sisters Springs property is adjacent to the beloved local waterways of the same name. The property was sold in March to a group of investors from Tampa. The site is one of the last undeveloped pieces of waterfront property in Crystal River.
