Also opening: Theron's latest assignment: 'Aeon Flux'

Halle Berry has Catwoman to take a little shine off her Academy Award. The science fiction adventure Aeon Flux (PG-13) may wind up doing the same for Charlize Theron, maybe even Frances McDormand.

Aeon Flux is based on comic books, video games and the character's frequent appearances in animated form on MTV - a veritable triple crown of easy sales to lemming audiences. Theron plays the title role, a futuristic assassin working for rebels against corrupt scientist-politicians controlling the city-state Bregna. McDormand co-stars as the Handler, Aeon's muse for mayhem.

Aeon's latest assignment is murdering one of those government leaders. We're promised she'll dive into a deeper conspiracy and shoot, flip, punch or seduce her way out. Paramount Pictures didn't plan to screen Aeon Flux until 10 tonight, clearing a path to solid opening weekend ticket sales without pesky film critics getting in the way.
