  • For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

Hot Ticket: Santa Claus is coming to . . . everywhere

By Times Staff Writer
Published December 1, 2005

Santa is a busy guy this weekend. Besides overseeing all that North Pole activity, he's going to put in appearances at community parades and holiday celebrations all over the Tampa Bay area, including in Safety Harbor, Pinellas Park, Plant City, Crystal River, Dunedin, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tampa and Treasure Island. Plus, the jolly old guy will pop in at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Pinewood Cultural Center near Largo, Cracker Country at the Florida State Fairgrounds and Old Hyde Park Village in Tampa.

We expect he might just show up at the boat parades in New Port Richey, Tierra Verde and Channelside, too.

There will be lots of Santa's helpers at all the fests as well, such as the festively chapeaued band members from the Mann Middle School Raider Band, shown above in the holiday parade through Ybor City last year.

For details on all these holiday extravaganzas, see the adjacent Get Away calendar.
