1. Rent - Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play reaches the screen with six original cast members and a dynamic musical debut by Rosario Dawson.

2. Capote - Philip Seymour Hoffman is a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination, playing author Truman Capote as he researches and writes In Cold Blood.

3. Good Night, and Good Luck - CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) challenges the Communist-hunting practices of Sen. Joseph McCarthy in George Clooney's gorgeous, thoughtful film.

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - The boy wizard (Daniel Radcliffe) takes a turn to manhood, dealing with first-crush jitters and the murderous intent of Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).

5. The Squid and the Whale - Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney co-star as a couple whose troubled marriage deeply affects their children.
