New student registration starts in Pinellas

By Times Staff
Published December 5, 2005

Parents of incoming kindergarteners and other students who will be new to Pinellas County schools in August 2006 can register their children at several satellite centers during December in addition to the two Family Education and Information Centers.

New students must be registered before they can participate in the school choice application periods in February and March.

The following sites will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday and on Dec. 12 and 14:

--Palm Harbor Elementary, 415 15th St., 669-1156.

--High Point Elementary, 6033 150th Ave. N, Clearwater, 538-7440.

--Blanton Elementary, 6400 54th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, 547-7820.

These sites will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Dec. 13:

--Eisenhower Elementary, 2800 Drew St., Clearwater, 725-7978.

--Starkey Elementary, 9300 86th Ave. N, Seminole, 547-7841.

--Bay Point Elementary, 5800 22nd St. S, St. Petersburg, 552-1449.

Parents should bring an original or certified copy of the child's state-issued birth certificate; proof of residency, such as a recent utility bill for power, water, cable, sewer or noncellular phone or lease agreement with the parent or guardian's name and service address on it; and a recent report card for students entering grades 1-12.

Parents of children eligible for the choice plan family preference may request assignment to the same school another family member attends at the time of registration. Family preference allows children residing together to be assigned to the same school as long as it does not violate the racial controls of the choice plan.

A confirmation letter will be sent to parents in January after family preference eligibility is confirmed.

In addition to the satellite centers, parents can register at the Family Education and Information Center in Clearwater, 1101 Marshall St., 298-2858; or the St. Petersburg center at 3420 Eighth Ave. S, 552-1595.
