If you are looking for something to do on Friday night and aren't a big fan of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, head over to Central High for a soccer doubleheader featuring the boys and girls varsity teams.

Not only are both teams in action - the girls at 6 p.m., the boys following at 8 - but both are playing significant district games.

Coach Amy Ellis' girls face a River Ridge squad that handed the Bears their first loss of the season last month. Coming off a 3-2 loss to Land O'Lakes, tonight's game is close to a must-win for Central (7-2).

The same goes for the boys, who face a Land O'Lakes team that beat the Bears 5-1 the first time around and are a frontrunner in the district.

LA FEMME NIKITA: Staph infections aside, a few splinters in the rear end can do an athlete some good.

Since being benched for a game against Zephyrhills two weeks ago, Hernando girls basketball player Nikita Washington has been on a tear. In the past three games, she has scored 18, 24 and 27 points while leading the Leopards to their first three wins of the season.

The majority of her points have come from the low post.

"That's our bread and butter with her," Hernando coach Walt Cermak said.

After starting 0-5, Hernando is now 3-5 and looking anxiously toward next week's re-match with undefeated Nature Coast, which topped the Leopards 47-39 earlier this season.
